On 10–11 March, the Tartu Vocational College hosted two highly engaging PUMP-UP training seminars, welcoming almost 50 students per day from heating, cooling, and construction programs. The seminars introduced participants to the PUMP-UP online learning materials on heat pump systems, highlighting flexible, self-paced learning opportunities and career-relevant skills.
Students explored all seven modules of the PUMP-UP MOOC, covering essential topics including:
- Heat pump fundamentals and system design
- Installation, maintenance, and occupational safety
- Digitalisation and emerging HVAC technologies
Through practical exercises, FAQs, and self-assessment tests, participants gained hands-on guidance and insight into the practical applications of heat pump technology. They were also informed that those completing the modules can take an exam and earn a certificate from the European Certification and Qualification Agency (ECQA), validating their knowledge and professional skills.
As heating systems teacher Kalmer Kollom noted: “Heat pump systems are energy-efficient, the market is growing, and there will be no shortage of work in this field anytime soon, both in Estonia and across Europe.”
The seminars marked an important milestone for the PUMP-UP project, demonstrating the growing interest in modern HVAC skills and providing students with the tools to develop competencies in heat pump technologies, supporting the transition to a greener energy future.
